Friends
Friends are special blessings. Jeff and I feel blessed to have friends in our small group who are at similar stages in life with whom we can share common goals, interests, and experiences. Jeff and I announced our pregnancy in July. Since the announcement, I have been bombarding our friends with baby/parenting questions at small group, through email, etc. They have most graciously responded to all of them, offering all kinds of advice, experiences, and the like.

A few weeks ago, Shelly C surprised me with a gift- the "So Easy" baby food kit. How thoughtful! The kit includes a baby food recipe book and various other items to help the user make baby food from scratch. Shelly and another member of our small group, Anna Fletcher, use this system to make baby food for their youngins. Besides being a fun and economical means to get baby food, you are able to monitor exactly what goes into baby's tummy- avoiding all those salts and preservatives sometimes found in store-bought foods. I can't wait to use it!

As Jeff and I are totally new to this parenting thing, we have been paying close attention to the techniques of our friends who have children, particularly those in our small group. You see, when we joined the group less than three years ago, one woman in the group, Marsha D, was pregnant with her first child. When Baby BRJ arrives in February, he/she will be baby number eight for the group! Through a number of conversations, the Careys exposed us to a Christian parenting philosophy called "Growing Kids God's Way." They have let us borrow a set of (curriculum) DVDs entitled "Let the Children Come Along the Infant Way" which we are in the process of viewing.

I had no idea that Babies R Us offered free informational classes on everything from breastfeeding to home safety tips. Amy H shared this "golden nugget" of info with me and has invited me to go with her to a few of the classes (Amy is pregnant as well, and is scheduled to give birth to a baby boy on Christmas). So far, I have only been able to attend one, a class on baby sign language. It was quite interesting. Apparently, babies can learn to communicate with signs (hand and/or arm motions) before they develop the verbal skills to convey the same ideas.
So thanks to all of our friends who have offered advice, time, and support!
