It's Been Awhile...
It's been way too long since the last blog, but we've been busy, busy, busy! Some events in our recent past: July 4th vacation at the NC cabin w/ friends, Ohio roadtrip for Jeff's annual company picnic, a major month long PC crash, 3 weeks of Florida vacation (including the Spiritual Growth Workshop, Jeff's 20th high school reunion, lots of Nana time, and the wedding of Melissa's friend, Michelle, among other things), Monthly GiGi time, and another trip to the NC cabin. Oh, and did I mention 10 weeks of nausea and fatigue???...baby #2 is on the way, yeah! I know the pregnancy countdown ticker has been posted for over a month, but I haven't officially outed myself yet, so there goes ;-)
Well, Alana is almost 19 months now, which is so hard to believe. She continues to amaze us evey day with her blossoming vocabulary. Alana can say well over 100 words now, although only about half of them are completely clear. I told the doctor this tidbit at her 18 month appointment, but she didn't believe me. She stated that the average 18 month old only uses 10-20 words, so she 'would just put down 20' on Alana's chart. Speaking of her last doctor's appt., Alana weighed in at 25 lbs., 10oz., and was 34 inches tall. She continues to be in the upper percentiles for height and head circumference and the mid-uppers for weight.
Alana can count to 10 well and tries to count to 16, but usually misses 14 and 15. She can state and recognize 12 colors and 7 shapes. Alana is, dare I say, obsessed with Dora and Diego the explorers and all their sidekicks. She continues to love books and songs and can often finish the sentences (b) and lyrics (s) to her favorites. Alana likes watercolors, playing in the sand box, and building 'high towers' with her jumbo legos. She is learning to express herself quite well, stringing 4-5 words together to form sentences. Alana can use her utensils to feed herself now, but only chooses to use them about half the time (the hands are still much faster). ;-)
