Savannah

Jeff needed to visit a few customers in southeast GA. Jeff wanted to use up a vacation day or two. The result: a family trip to Savannah! Grammy (Jeff's mom) wanted to see Alana. We were planning a trip to Savannah. The result: Grammy met us in Savannah and spent the week with us there. :-)



Jeff suggested we use priceline.com to book our hotel in Savannah. We made a low bid on 3 star hotels in the historic district. The Hyatt, located on the Savannah River, accepted our bid! We couldn't have picked a better location. The hotel was right on River Street-a street full of restaurants, shops, street performers, artists, and where "everyone" in Savannah goes to watch the fireworks on The Fourth.


The Hyatt had a patio on the fourth floor of the hotel. The patio offered a wonderful view of the river, especially at night. We watched many cargo ships travel down the river; we also saw ferries, tug boats, and a navy ship there.



Savannah is such a quaint city. There are 20+ squares throughout the downtown historic district. When Oglethorpe set up the city, the areas currently called squares (and surrounding blocks) were known as wards; each ward was kind of like a subdivision or a mini town, complete with 20 or so homes, a church, and a common meeting area.


The historic district houses some of the most beautiful architecture (no pun intended). Interestingly, many of these homes were catalog or "kit" houses at the time of installation, and could be ordered for just $1,000. Now, many of these refurbished homes are now worth millions of dollars!
