What's in a Name?

Well, I believe Jeff and I have finally come to an agreement on the name of our precious baby:

Alana Nicole

I searched the web for the following information on the meanings of Alana and Nicole (this was after we decided upon her name).

Alana:

The girl's name Alana is pronounced ah-LAH-nah. It is of Old German and Hawaiian origin,

From its German roots comes "precious; awakening."

In Hawaiian, Alana means "awakening," or is sometimes translated as "an offering."

In Gaelic, "fair, beautiful" and "little rock" are two translations.

From Elaine (Old French) "bright, shining"

Or Helen (Greek) "light."

Nicole:

The girl's name Nicole is pronounced ni-KOHL. It is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "victorious people" or "victory of the people."


Our darling daughter, as your name implies, you will be an awakening to our spirits and the light of Christ, incarnate. May His light emanate from you all of your days. May His victory over sin and death be yours. May your faith be like a rock, and may your spirit be strong and beautiful.
